Giosuè Carducci ( famous Italian writer ) acclaimed its beauty so much to write a poem. Its story starts around the middle of '800, when Misurina, gem of the Dolomites area, start being well-know and esteemed as precious touristic spot thank to some German and English travellers.
It is one of the most charming place in the world and it makes you feel surrounded by an enchanting ambience, with an amazing lake. The clear water of the lake creates a reflection of a sight showing itself in all its beauty to the visitors, delimited on one side by the Sorapiss Amphitheater, and on the other by the Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Italian for "three peaks of Lavaredo). The mountain Piana, the Cadini of Misurina, the Piz Popena, the Cristallino and the Marmarole gives shape to one of the most majestic wide valley in the entire alpine chain.

It is famous a legend according to which King Sorapiss that, to fulfill obtain for his beautiful daughter Misurina a magic mirror, he is transformed into a mountain. Misurina's tears, moved by her father' sacrifice, formed the lake on which Sorapiss can see its reflection.

The location is definitively surreal characterised by a luxuriant vegetation consisting of pines, firs, larches surrounding the little lake that during the summer reaches a warm water temperature, while in winter is covered with ice. In the coldest season, the municipalities of Cortina and Auronzo every year organized polo tournaments. Besides that, it is also possible to use the lake for ice-skating.

In summer time, instead, the area around the little lake becomes a beach equipped with umbrellas and chairs. The mild temperature of the season is ideal for hiking and trekking through the trails of the Tre Cime del Lavaredo; or, it is perfect to have a relaxing walk through the forest or along the paths enjoying good and fresh air. Those who love fishing, have in Misurina a perfect location where they can dedicate their time to the trout fishing in the lake or the close creeks.
